Age Connects in Neath Port Talbot is currently running Eng-AGE Dementia, a 6 month pilot awareness raising programme funded by the Integrated Care Fund. This programme which runs until the end of March 2019 is designed to help people to learn and understand more about dementia, the risks, the types, getting diagnosed and living with the disease.

During this period a number of Age Connects Neath Port Talbot staff, along with volunteers will receive dementia awareness training delivered either by workshop or by interactive digital training. The purpose is to ensure that Age Connects Neath Port Talbot is dementia friendly in its approach and practices. This will include both office based and community based staff and volunteers.

In addition, information leaflets have been produced and are available to help with raising awareness of dementia to help signpost anyone to the appropriate agencies and services should they have questions or concerns about dementia. These leaflets along with our EngAGE Dementia Co-ordinator will also be present at our community outreach groups and activities over the next few months.

Testimonials

"I was really struggling to make ends meet and didn’t know who to turn to. I called in to Age Connects Neath Port Talbot to say if they could help. The service was fantastic, professional and very fast. I received a benefit check which led to a successful claim for Attendance Allowance and Pension Credit. As a result, my income has increased by over £5,000 per year."

Welfare Benefits

"I think our group is absolutely fantastic. Sometimes a few people can’t make it, but we have a core group who wouldn’t miss it for the world – and I am certainly one of those! It really is the highlight of my week and I really look forward to the activities and having a good chat and a catch up with my friends."

Outreach

"The Advocate helped me to find a suitable care home for my wife, visited all of them with me and knew all of the right questions to ask. It really was a huge help during a very difficult time of our lives."

Advocacy

"Through volunteering, I really feel like I’m doing something worthwhile. It’s fun, keeps me active and has really boosted my confidence."

Volunteering

“I have had my iPad for two years and have struggled to use it, meaning it hasn’t come out of the box. In the first two weeks of attending, I have bags more confidence and am learning something new every week.”

Digital Inclusion

"The war museum we visited was really interesting. I had heard some people talking about it in the past but never thought I would get the chance to visit. I had a great day and it really brought some memories back! We even had war time sandwiches for lunch."

Outreach

"When the Advocate was there, the staff at the hospital would say ‘Is that alright with you?’ They would never ask me that before!"
